Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of girls, women and their children. Our network of around 80,000 club members in 130 countries and territories works at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls.

One of the local clubs within the organization, Soroptimist International of Victoria Westshore (SIVW), is a network of dynamic professional women who get things done!

A little more than a year ago, SIVW launched Anney’s Closet, a free store for at-risk women to shop for household items to get a fresh start and to turn their living space into a comfortable home. Thanks to the donations from our community, including downsizing seniors, we are able to serve about eight clients a month.  SIVW works closely with 20+ Victoria based social service agencies who refer women to the Closet. At a recent international convention of 20 countries within Soroptimist, Anney’s Closet won an award as the best program for women and girls for 2014.

Our club is directly involved in the wellbeing of local girls and young women through the Imagining Possibilities Conference, comprised of workshops and small groups. This day long conference began as a small workshop in 2012 and continues as a well-formed free conference in 2014.

We work locally and globally as a club. We have lent to more than 130 women entrepreneurs in nearly 30 countries through our Kiva.org and are supporting members of the Soroptimist Kiva Lending Team.
